TLC’s philosophy is that when you provide care for children with special needs it’s one of those gifts you give yourselves. There is so much to be learned from those who overcome limitations and seem to have an understanding of “what truly matters in life."
Families of children with special needs enjoy a path to learning that they might not otherwise experience. This is true of the care and respite providers as well.
However, there truly is a heavy load of ongoing, often relentless, custodial needs and/or supervision. We believe that as respite providers take on some of the care-giving tasks, then each family member is freed up to enjoy their natural role of Mom, Dad and siblings. Also, the children with disabilities enjoy a variety of relationships, varying expectations of their abilities and opportunities for independence and growth, no matter their ability level. Employment as a care provider for a family touched by special needs is a win-win situation!
