The daily demands of life made it difficult to seek out helpers and activities. Now with the gift of a bit more time, we want to pursue such resources for other families. We hope to lighten their load and ease their path toward living life to the fullest!

A message from the founders, Mike and Louise Bruce:

Over 20 years ago, we celebrated our wedding in beautiful Yosemite. We have since parented three wonderful children, Laura, Ben and Christopher, and enjoy a marriage cushioned by God's grace.

Laura and Christopher were born with special needs, specifically, cerebral palsy, limited vision, limited speech and the corresponding delays.

Our middle son, Ben is an active teenager who has achieved "stardom" in a local rock band, 15th Hour. He also plays his bass guitar at church and at Marin School of the Arts. He's been an amazing brother to his "special" siblings. Ben's a great kid to whom good grades and great friends come easily.

The LaChris Connection is named in memory of Laura and Christopher.

The difficult part of our story is the deaths of those two children. Their deaths were, primarily, unrelated to their disabilities. They were generally healthy and expected to live long lives.

Our family was barely beyond the one-year anniversary of 10-year old Christopher's death from pneumonia in March 2004 when, in April of 2005, our 16-year old daughter, Laura, died of complications related to intestinal problems.

A deep breath and a quieting of the mind helps one comprehend, yet not quite reconcile, this reality each time it's spoken.

Laura was a young lady who made an indelible impression wherever she appeared. Her passion for life and friendship taught us invaluable lessons. Christopher's sweet spirit and musical talent softened the hearts of anyone who was near. They touched many lives in their short time on earth.

Through the establishment of The LaChris Connection, we're continuing their legacy of blessing people's lives.

Though faced with the challenges of their disabilities, the blessing of our children taught us to focus on what matters in life. With the help of fantastic nannies and special services, our family enjoyed traveling, camping, parties galore and much-needed respite for our marriage. The daily demands of life made it difficult to seek out helpers and activities. Now with the gift of a bit more time, we want to pursue such resources for other families. We hope to lighten their load and ease their path toward living life to the fullest!
